Tomato Saar / Tomatao Curry

This spicy, tangy and little sweet curry recipe is very much famous in most of the kitchen not only in Maharashtra but in other regions also.
The origin of this recipe is basically from the coastal regions of Maharashtra.

Servings :              3 – 4 persons

Ingredients

  1. Tomatoes – 3 numbers
  2. Cumin seeds – 1 tea spoon
  3. Turmeric powder – 1/2 tea spoon
  4. Salt – to taste
  5. Jaggery or sugar – 1 tea spoon (as per requirement)
  6. Coconut – 1 inch
  7. Garlic – 3 to 4 cloves
  8. Curry leaves – 1 string
  9. Green chillis – 2 numbers OR Red chilli powder – 1 tea spoon (as per choice)
  10. Coriender leaves (chopped) – 1 table spoon
  11. Oil – 1/2 table spoon (for tadka)

Instructions

  1. In a grinder grind all ingredients like tomato, garlic, green chili or red chili powder, coconut, 1/2 Coriander leaves(keep half for garnishing), 1/2 cumin seed (keep half cumin seed for tadka)
  2. For tadka heat oil in a pan add cumin seed, curry leaves and tomato paste.
  3. Add salt as per taste, jaggery, turmeric powder and mix well.
  4. Now cook it for 5-7 minutes on low flame.
  5. And seasoned with chopped coriander leaves.
  6. Serve hot as a soup or can be added in the main menu.
